A Message to Our Dental Community: The Facts About a Recent Cybersecurity Incident

For more than 22 years, Legend Networking has been privileged to serve dental practices across the country, helping protect the technology that keeps practices running and patient information secure. That responsibility is something we take seriously every day.

Recently, rumors began circulating throughout Facebook groups and within the dental industry regarding a possible cybersecurity breach involving Legend Networking. Whenever questions arise about the security of our organization or the practices we support, we believe our clients deserve clear, factual communication, not speculation.

Today, I’d like to share exactly what happened, what we did in response, and what an independent investigation confirmed.

What Happened

Several weeks ago, we became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving one of our internal systems. While there was no indication at that time that client information had been affected, we immediately activated our incident response procedures and launched a comprehensive investigation.

Our objective was straightforward: determine the facts, assess any potential risk, and respond with complete transparency.

Our Immediate Response

As a trusted technology partner for dental practices, security has always been built into every aspect of our operations. Our environment includes multiple layers of protection, including:

  • Advanced endpoint security
  • Network segmentation
  • Continuous system monitoring
  • Secure backup infrastructure
  • Organization-wide cybersecurity best practices

Despite these safeguards, every cybersecurity event deserves a thorough investigation. Rather than relying solely on internal assessments, we chose to engage independent experts.

Healthcare compliance educator and advisor Bob Dee referred us to Debi Carr of D K Carr & Associates, a recognized authority in HIPAA compliance, cybersecurity, and incident response.

Working under Debi’s guidance, we engaged TransUnion’s Cyber Forensics team to conduct an independent forensic investigation, including extensive system analysis and dark web monitoring.

The Independent Investigation Results

Following two weeks of forensic analysis, the investigation concluded:

  • No evidence of unauthorized access to client data
  • No client information was compromised
  • No patient information was compromised
  • No evidence of data being exposed or leaked

These findings provided independent confirmation that our clients’ information remained protected throughout the incident.

Although we are grateful for these results, cybersecurity is never a one-time effort.

Threats continue to evolve, and responsible organizations must evolve with them.
